NERC

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), designated as the official Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) for the United States by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), has developed common operating standards for power and utility companies nationwide. Constantly being refined and expanded, NERC standards are just one of many regulations that power and utility companies must address, resulting in costly and time-intensive compliance practices in order to stay current.

As a result, power and energy generators and providers are striving to combine compliance and risk frameworks into a single, comprehensive governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) strategy in order to:

  • Maximize budget and staff resources
  • Take advantage of existing controls and processes
  • Identify NERC compliance risks and incorporate them into the enterprise-wide risk landscape

The NeoGRC NERC Framework

The NERC framework built on the NeoGRC platform provides power and utility companies with a highly flexible environment to maintain and report on compliance requirements, even as they continue to evolve. NeoGRC enables the NERC framework to be easily integrated into an organization’s broader GRC landscape, providing a single source of coordination for all GRC activities.

The NeoGRC NERC framework provides:

  • Trusted and secure underlying data architecture
  • Centralization of FERC Reliability Standards policy, control, and process documentation
  • Flexible workflows around processes, controls testing and documentation, incident investigations remediation activities, and audit activity
  • Performance monitoring of key metrics associated with maintenance of standards performance thresholds
  • Alert systems for early warning of performance degradation
  • Comprehensive reporting with graphical, interactive, and investigative capabilities
  • Incident capture, analysis, and risk-based mitigation of potential fines
  • Integration of the Compliance Monitoring and Evaluation Program (CMEP) Readiness Evaluations with other compliance audits
